Maria is the founder and owner of Nantasket Sweets By Swedes. The only Swedish woman owned Candy store on the east coast USA.

Open since Christmas Eve 2020. With a passion for Swedish candy and quality chocolate.

The candy store has its own kitchen where she make chocolate , fudge, pralines and Chocolate Turtles and more. You can see us making all the goodies through a window in the candy store.

Our mission is to bring a more natural candy to the market. Less artificial ingredients. Magic and happiness for people of all ages.

Our chocolate products are made organically from scratch in small batches. Using only high quality French and Belgian Chocolates like Valrhona and Callebaut.

Maria have been in the hospitality business over 35 years and the last 10 years as a Hotel General manager in Stockholm Sweden. She started her career in a small candy kiosk at the age of 13 in Gothenburg Sweden.

Trained in culinary institute, it’s a natural step for her to start making her own chocolate creations for my candy store. In 2019 Maria and her  family left Sweden and invested all she had in to the Candy store in Hull Nantasket Beach, to build their American dream.

The year after opening the candy store. In late 2021 her husband was diagnosed with a severe kidney diseases and he just had a few months to live. In April 2022 she  donated her kidney to her husband. They  manage to keep the doors open during all a very difficult time thanks to family, friends and staff.

My first time on Nantasket Beach.

Growing up, I heard stories about my grandfathers General Store store just outside Malmköping in Sweden. He was mixing his own coffee brand and his store was a popular spot in the Town.

His name was Carl Teodor Gustafson and he started his General store 1929. The store got very popular and soon the big corporation laid their eyes on his business and products and started to sell the same products and soon after that he was forced to go bankrupt and the big corporation took over his business. During this time in Sweden as many as 20% of the population immigrate to USA.

My grandparents Alva & C.T Gustafson on my father side and Britta & Algot Johansson on my mothers side, are great inspirations to everything I do. Hard working Swedes that build the Swedish country.
