A Sweet Swedish Story Shared on Letters from America
There are moments in every entrepreneur's journey that feel especially meaningful. Being invited to share my story on Letters from America, hosted by Swedish storyteller and photographer Martin Wærn, was one of those moments.
Letters from America is much more than a podcast. It is a year-long journey across the United States celebrating the deep and lasting connection between Sweden and America. Produced in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Washington, D.C., the series follows Martin as he travels coast to coast in search of the people, places, and stories that make up the rich history of Swedish America. The project honors the approximately 1.3 million Swedes who emigrated to the United States while also highlighting the modern Swedish entrepreneurs, artists, innovators, and community builders who continue to strengthen the relationship between our two countries. As a Swedish entrepreneur who followed my own American dream, it was an honor to become part of that story.
From Sweden to the Massachusetts Coast
When I left Sweden, I brought with me more than memories. I brought traditions, recipes, craftsmanship, and a dream of introducing authentic Swedish sweets to America.
In 2020, that dream became reality when I opened Nantasket Sweets by Swedes in beautiful Hull, Massachusetts. What began as a small family business has grown into one of New England's destinations for authentic Swedish candy, handcrafted chocolates, creamy fudge, and traditional Scandinavian treats.
Every customer who walks through our doors becomes part of our story. Whether they grew up in Sweden, have Scandinavian roots, or are simply discovering Swedish candy for the very first time, our goal is always the same—to create an experience that brings people together through sweetness.
Sharing the Swedish-American Journey
One of the reasons Letters from America resonates so deeply is that it celebrates ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Host Martin Wærn has created a podcast that explores the Swedish footprint across America—from historic communities and cultural landmarks to modern businesses and inspiring individuals who continue building bridges between the two countries. His road trip is a reminder that Swedish heritage is alive and thriving throughout the United States. (LETTERS FROM AMERICA)
Being invited to share my own journey alongside so many remarkable stories was incredibly special.
Keeping Swedish Traditions Alive
At Nantasket Sweets by Swedes, our mission has always been about more than candy.
We believe food creates memories. A piece of Swedish chocolate, a handful of pick-and-mix candy, or a homemade caramel can instantly transport someone back to childhood, family celebrations, or a visit to Scandinavia.
For many of our Swedish customers, our store feels like a taste of home.
For American visitors, it's often the beginning of a new tradition.
That cultural connection is exactly what Letters from America celebrates—people preserving their heritage while embracing new opportunities in America.
A Podcast Worth Following
If you enjoy stories about entrepreneurship, Swedish culture, immigration, travel, history, and the people who continue to strengthen the friendship between Sweden and the United States, Letters from America is well worth listening to.
Martin Wærn combines thoughtful conversations with remarkable storytelling, taking listeners across America to discover the many ways Swedish heritage continues to shape communities today. The podcast features artists, athletes, business owners, historians, musicians, and countless individuals whose stories deserve to be heard. (LETTERS FROM AMERICA)
